Dalgona Coffee
What is Dalgona?
A beverage made by whipping equal proportions of instant coffee, sugar and hot water until it becomes creamy and then adding it to cold or hot milk.
It can be occasionally, it is topped with coffee powder, cocoa, crumbled biscuits, or honey.
It is not possible to make dalgona coffee using ground coffee beans; instant coffee creates the dense and foamy topping and the reason for this has much to do with the drying process of the coffee granules
Instant Coffee Vs Ground Coffee 😀😀😀😀
Instant coffee contains all (most) of what you want in a finished cup of coffee minus the water. Ground coffee contains more than what you want and needs to be brewed (with water) to extract just the good stuff while being filtered to leave the bad stuff behind. Both start out as ground coffee.
History of Dalgona
Many people don't know that dalgona, means “honeycomb toffee”, in Korean and for many Koreans evokes strong memories of
from their childhoods. The treat was very popular in South Korea in the 1970s and 80s – before American fast-food chain, McDonald’s opened in the country in 1988. Parents, unable to spare money for sugary high-end treats, went about trying to make their own versions.
Recently, the coining of the name is credited to actor Jung II -Woo, who ordered a whipped coffee at an eatery in Macau during his appearance on a TV show called Stars' Top Recipe at Fun-Restaurant. He likened the taste to that of dalgona, he remembered of.
